Linen Closet Organization

So I originally had planned to get this post out yesterday, but obviously that didn't happen. I had a terrible headache all day, due to sinus pressure. As much as I love this time of year, I also suffer with allergies.

For weeks my mom has been telling me to try a neti-pot, as she swears by it. I've been a little freaked out with trying one, I mean come on, who really wants water up their nose?! But yesterday was so bad that I finally broke down and tried it.

I'm not going to lie, it was weird. The water kept running down the back of my throat, yuck! It took me a minute to get it to come out my nose. I'm still not sure how I feel about it or if it worked. I did feel all kinds of movement in my sinuses afterwards. And I don't have much pressure today, so maybe it did work. I suppose I may try it again if I have another day of bad pressure. We'll see...

Has anyone else tired a neti-pot? What did you think?

Okay now on to the real topic of today's post. At my weekly link party {Simply Create Thursday's} I've seen a few closet organization post, such as this one from Suburle and this one from Hickory Trail. They've really insipried me to organize my linen closet! So today I will show you all what I did to organize my closet.

Okay, here is the before picture:

Pretty bad, huh? It's mostly because of laziness.

What I quickly learned was in order to keep it organized I had to fold my towels and sheets better.

Here is how I folded my towels:

First, I folded them in half lengthwise. Then into thirds. And finished by folding them in half lengthwise again.

For the sheets, my biggest problem was learning how to properly fold a fitted sheet. I tried following what Steph Modo posted but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out.

So I you-tubed it and found this video:

And by golly I figured it out! I seriously was way too happy about this accomplishment, so happy that I immediately showed Chris! He thinks I'm a werido. : )

To make my sheet stack pretty I found a post from The Complete Guide to Imperfect Homemaking. She described 4 different ways to stack the sheets together, basically dependent on how you fold the pillowcase.

The only things left to organize were the hand towels, wash cloths, and the random bottles we have in that cloest. To do this I just bought some baskets from the dollar store.

I love how organized it is now!

It looks so much better and organized now, with very little effort!

  1. On the subject of Neti-pots, I know a few people that use them and really like them. I am of the belief that I just can't see myself pouring ANY liquid up my nose! It just goes against my nature. I'll just stick with the old fashion way of getting rid of sinus headaches...medication! ;)

  10. It doesn't matter how many times I try to organize my closet, it never seems to stay organized. I keep telling myself to get baskets. I'm sure that would help in the long run. This looks neat! Saw it on Dear Creatives and had to check it out.
