Exciting News!

Hey everyone! Today I don't have a tutorial or anything for you all. Instead I'm going to write about a more personal topic. I know I rarely do this, but I'm very excited and I want to share my news and excitement with you all.

If you follow me on Instagram then you know that I made an exciting announcement last night:

I'm engaged!!!!

He actually asked me a week ago, but I've waited a little bit to write about it {and to really let it sink in : ) }. I'm going to tell you all about how he proposed but first I wanted to tell you guys the story of how we met:

Back in 2009 I was still a graduate student living with my sister. That summer, around my birthday {so early July} my sister, her best friend Courtney, and I went to a bar in downtown Cincinnati called Cadillac Ranch {we call it Caddy}. We went to celebrate my birthday and I had just been dumped by a guy I had been seeing for a few weeks, so I wanted to go out.

While at Caddy, we met a random group of guys. Yes, Chris was in this group, but I did not go up and flirt with him that night. I find Chris super attractive, like out-of-my-leauge attractive, so I was too shy to flirt with him. Instead, I flirted with his friend {Clint} and when the night was over Clint and I ended up exchanging numbers.

Over the next few weeks Clint and I talked on the phone but we just weren't connecting. He was a real nice, guy but the chemistry was not there. But since Clint and I were "talking" for a few weeks, every time my sister, Courtney, and I went to Caddy the group of guys were likely to show up. After a month or two, we all became friends and would always meet up at Caddy.

It turns out the guys were a ton of fun and super nice. I felt very safe with each of them. Us girls knew we could trust these guys, which is why we always would meet up with them. Ahh the good days. : )

On New Year's Eve 2009 I got a text from Chris saying "Hey this is Porter. I love you." {The guys always call Chris by his last name "Porter", it's his nickname}. He and a couple of the other guys were headed to New Orleans to watch UC's football team in a bowl game. I thought he had drank a few, but apparently he hadn't. It was also a little strange that he was texting me {not to mention what he said} because we really hadn't ever talked outside Caddy.

As I said before, I find Chris extremely attractive. Every time I saw him at Caddy he never talked to me. He would always look at me with a blank face then walk away. I thought I had no chance with him. I kind of thought he was one of those stuck-up, I'm too attractive for you type of guys. I always thought he found me annoying.

Turns out I was wrong. He says he was always into me, since the first night we all met. He was just too shy to say anything. Isn't that funny!

He was only kidding when he wrote that text, but it was the start of us "talking". By February 2010 we were "dating" or boyfriend/girlfriend, what ever the kids are calling it these days. In spring of 2011 we moved in together.

Okay now the engagement story:

It happened last Wednesday {May 29, 2013}, we had just gotten home from Chirs's volleyball game. I actually had posted a photo of him playing on Instagram:

He is the one in the blue shirt. : )

Anyway we were home, on the couch actually talking about engagement rings. We have been together for a little over 3 years now and have lived together for 2. It has been implied for awhile now that we will eventually get married.

I was telling Chris to not get me a very expensive ring. Just something little and simple, we can always upgrade on an anniversary down the road. Chris has gone back to school so money is a little tight right now. I was telling him that we need to save our money. That I don't need a huge ring, all I care about is the meaning behind it.

So there we were, sitting on the couch, I had gotten my laptop and was showing him different rings I liked. I was saying things like "Oh, what about that one?" and "Like that one, simple". Chris then said " What about this one?" I turned my head expecting him to show me a picture on his phone, but no. Chris was on one knee in front of me with a ring in his hand!!! He then said "Will you marry me?"

Of course I eventually said yes, but it took me a minute. I was in complete shock! I kept say "Holy Shit!" {sorry for cussing : / } and "Are you serious?" I cried a little but I also started laughing like a crazy person. I couldn't believe the day had finally come!

He even had gone and talked to my parents on Monday to ask their permission. I had told him that I wanted him to do so. I'm very close with my family and wanted their blessing. My parents were really happy, especially my mom. She is ready to be a grandma!

Here is the ring:

Simple and perfect. The most important thing for me was that he picked it out. It came from his heart.

So there you have it. We are very happy and excited! It will probably be a two year engagement. Since he is in school, I don't want to rush it. Plus I want to do most of it myself and two years will give me plenty of time.

Since I plan on a DIY wedding, I will probably post some tutorials. But it will be awhile, probably not till after the wedding! Keep an eye out on Instagram, though, as I'm sure I'll be posting lots of wedding stuff!
