Burlap "Joy" Ornament

I'm apart of a giveaway which is still live. If you haven't entered yet click the link below for a chance to win $180!

On Monday I shared with you all the Needle and Thread Ornament I made for the Ornament Exchange. Well I actually made two ornaments! This is the second one I made! It is super easy to make and very customizable. Here is what I did:

What you need:
  • Burlap
  • Needle & Thread
  • Shape Outline {I used a star}
  • Word Print Out
  • Hot Glue Gun
I started by tracing my shape outline onto the burlap and cutting it out. I made a star but you could make whatever shape you like. Be sure to cut out 2 shapes.

Next I taped the print out of the word to a window, then taped the burlap star over the paper {similar to what I did for my Embroidery Art}. I used the word "JOY" but you could use whatever you like! I then traced the word onto both of the burlap stars but you don't have to do both.

Once the word was traced onto the burlap stars, I sewed the word using a backstitch with red thread.

Next, I attached the two burlap stars together using hot glue. I only glued around the edges and left one point of the star open. Be sure to have the backstitched word on the outside.

I then stuffed the ornament with extra scrapes of burlap through the open end.  Once the ornament was as full as I liked I closed the open end with hot glue along the edge.

Finally, I did a blanket stitch around the outline of the whole star with the red thread. Be sure to add a loop at the top for hanging when you are finished with the blanket stitch.

That's it! See, I told you it was simple.

I love how easily customizable this is. You can pick your own shape, word, and thread color! I hope my exchange partner liked this ornament too. : )
