Book Page Sunburst Mirror

While taking photos for this year's Christmas tour post I noticed that our dining area is lacking wall decor. So I decide to fix that! I've been wanting to make a sunburst mirror out of book pages for almost a year now and I finally got around to making it. Here is what I did:

What you need:
  • Book pages
  • Circle mirror {mine was either 14 or 16 inches in diameter}
  • Hot glue gun
  • Jute

I started by cutting 4 and 1/2 inch squares of paper from book pages. Then I rolled the paper and secured them with hot glue, similar to what I did in my Paper Dahlias post.

Next I glued the paper rolls to the mirror. I first glued them on the outside of the mirror. Once the outside was full I made a second circle of paper rolls inside the first.

I only glued two layers of paper circles on my mirror, but you can add as many layers as you like. To hide the inside ends of the paper rolls I added jute. While adding paper rolls I didn't keep the circle perfect so, to make sure the jute was in a perfect circle, I first made a 11.5 inch circle {or whatever size circle that will fit inside your mirror} out of scrapbook paper. I then used this paper circle as a template and traced a circle onto my mirror.

I then glued the jute directly onto this circle. I continued circling the jute around until the insides of the paper rolls were covered. I made about 6 layers of jute.

That's it!

It isn't perfect but I love it! And it looks great in the dinning area. : )
