Hi all, this is Week 6, the final week of the Pinterest Challenge! This week I decided to work on the DIY Mercury Glass from Tidy Mom:
Unfortunately this project didn't exactly work out the way I hoped it would. But I'll share with you the steps that I did and maybe you all might figure out where I went wrong! Here is what I did:
What you need:
- Looking Glass Mirror- Like Paint
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Spray Bottle
First I sprayed my vase on the inside with the Looking Glass Mirror- Like Paint. I wasn't sure how many layers were used on the original tutorial so I used 3 layers.
Next I mixed equal parts apple cider vinegar and water in a spray bottle. I then sprayed a fine mist of the mixture on the inside of my vase. Using a cloth rag, I gently blotted the inside of the vase in the hopes of achieving a distressed look.
And this is how my vase turned out:
Not very mercury glass like. : (
I think I went wrong in two places. 1) I think I should have only used one layer of paint. 2) I bought Walmart brand vinegar which may not have been strong enough.
I did add more vinegar to my mixture in case the mixture wasn't strong enough to effect the paint but it didn't work. I also left the vinegar mixture sit on the paint for a long time and still nothing.
I am going to try this again, with non-generic and only one layer of the paint. Hopefully this time it will work! I will share my results on my Instagram, so be sure you are following!
If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I love the look of mercury glass so I really want to get this project to work!
