Storage Box Makeover

Hi all! Happy Thursday. : )

Lately I've been into sprucing up things that I already have instead of buying something new. One example of this are some storage bins I've had for awhile. When I bought them a few years ago my taste was much different from what it is now. So I decided to give my storage boxes a makeover to match my current style taste!

This project was a bit of a craft fail too, but we'll get to that! Here is what I did:

What you need:
  • Storage bins
  • Paint {It can be spray paint or craft paint, either works}

Here is what I was starting with. While pretty, they were just too busy and the colors didn't go with the room I have these boxes in. A makeover was definitely necessary!

First I spray painted each box white.

My original idea was to spray paint the boxes white for a base color. Then I wanted to create a gray design on the boxes using stencils.

Unfortunately things didn't work out. : /  This was my first time stenciling so I figured it may not work. I posted this photo on my Instagram and Facebook feeds and I received a ton of great tips on how to improve my stenciling. I'm not defeated yet, so look out for more stenciling attempts in the future!

Since the stenciling didn't work out, I just painted the top of the boxes with gray paint. Though it wasn't what I had envisioned, they still came out pretty well.

At least they are much better now then before! And they totally fit with my other decor!

Do you have any craft fails that you made work? I'd love to see them!
