Hexagon Wall Art

Happy Thursday all! In our apartment we have a spare bedroom that acts as a guest room/ office/ craft studio. And while we have plenty of stuff in that room, the walls are pretty blank. I decided that I wanted to do a fun gallery wall next to the bed. This gallery wall is going to be made up of all the fun pins I pin on pinterest that I don't know where to put!

I already started the gallery wall a few months ago with the Paint Chip Chevron Art. But I then became busy with other things and sort of forgot about the wall. Well recently I decided to work on it again! Browsing the internet one day led me to this Hexagon Clock. I loved it and knew I wanted to do something similar for my fun gallery wall. Here is what I did:

What you need:
  • X-acto knife
  • Hexagon template
  • Ruler
  • Pen
  • Card stock
  • Foam board
  • Fabric
  • Hot glue gun
  • Command stickies

First I decided on what size hexagons I wanted and printed out a hexagon template onto card stock {I designed my template in power point, super easy!} I cut out the hexagon template then used it to trace hexagons out of foam board. I cut the foam board hexagons out using the x-acto knife.

Next I needed a hexagon template for the fabric. To make the fabric hexagon template I traced out a new hexagon template that was 3/8th bigger than the foam board hexagon template.

Here are the templates side by side. The fabric template needs to be larger so the fabric can wrap around the foam board.

Next, I traced and cut out the fabric hexagons.

Then using the hot glue gun, I attached the fabric to the foam board hexagons.

Instead of making a clock, I wanted to make a fun hexagon wall art. To do this I had to attach each hexagon to the wall by themselves {I did not glue my hexagons together like in the Hexagon Clock.} Since we live in an apartment I always have to be careful on how I attach things to our walls. My favorite way is to use Command stickies! I used two stickies on the top and bottom of each hexagon and so far so good!

Finally, I created a design and attached the hexagons to the wall. Done!

I really love this project! I was so fun and the finish product is wonderful! I love how I can add or change it if I get bored with how the hexagon art looks.

I plan on adding a couple more projects to this gallery wall and will eventually show you all a reveal. So stay tuned!
